PyeongChang is a county in the Gangwon province of South Korea, located in the Taeback Mountains region, and will host the XXIII edition of the Olympic Winter Games on 9-25 February 2018.

PyeongChang 2018 is only the third time an Olympic Winter Games has been held in Asia, marking the start of a series of Olympics in the continent, with Tokyo hosting the Games in 2020, then on to Beijing for the Olympic Winter Games in 2022.

The official programme will consist of seven sports, comprising 15 disciplines, including the brand new four joining the Olympic Winter Games this year; snowboarding big air, curling mixed doubles, speed skating mass start and alpine skiing team event. Team GB look to be present with approximately 60 athletes competing across 11 disciplines.

PyeongChang is located 700m above sea level, which is an altitude considered optimal for human health and wellness. The Gangwon province prides itself on its quaint, beautiful natural scenery, including the Odaesan Mountain, the rolling meadows of Daegwallyeong and the numerous peaceful rivers in the area. If you’re planning to visit PyeongChang for the Olympic Winter Games, be sure to immerse yourself in the stunning culture, and take in all that the beautiful country has to offer.

Korea has extensive experience in hosting major sporting events, such as the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 Daegu IAAF World Championships, and the upcoming Olympic Winter Games looks set to follow in the footsteps of these impressive events.
